Live or Let Die...
…Given the current rate of resource consumption, the sustainable human population is less than two billion – and falling further rapidly as our already unsustainable consumption rate further degrades the natural ‘resources’ which provide us with sustenance and, indeed, land to live on as the impact of global warming becomes ever more severe…
Therefore, given that the human population is currently around eight
billion, at the extremes we can quarter our population or quarter our resource
consumption as, whilst reducing the human population as quickly as possible
through family planning and birth control is required, it simply won’t get us
down to the levels we need within a few years: even with our best efforts it
would take a century or more, and we simply don’t have that long…
To have any chance of surviving largely intact, we must act together in
this world war, in a concerted effort to at least quarterize our rate of
consumption within a few years… This will not be easy, but this is our
Apollo moment – and we cannot afford to fail… We are already feeling the
impact of a modest increase in global temperatures, and every day burning more
fossil ‘fuel’ is just one more day through cascading processes and irreversible
tipping points on our way to thermal runaway and extinction…
Difficult choices, I know – but in the end it comes down to wishing
whether to live; or die…
